HEAD OF THE UGCC SVYATOSLAV SHEVCHUK: THREE VECTORS FOR CYM
During his meeting with the representatives of the World Council of CYM, held on January 28, 2020 in Lviv, the Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, outlined his vision of the directions of development for the Union of Ukrainian Youth.
"First, I want to thank the CYM for its cradle - to Kiev, to Central and Eastern Ukraine," the spiritual leader of the Greek Catholics said. - Now the future of Ukraine and our Church is forging there. Now there is war and blood spilling, but consciousness is also awakening. Therefore, the strategic vector to the east is a vector of a return to roots and a new awareness of our identity in the context of the difficult war that Ukraine is waging for its future. "
“The next vector is our new settlements, which are now generously planted in different countries where we once were gone. At present, the phenomenon of emigration is one of the most painful for the state and public life of Ukraine, ”the Head of the UGCC emphasized.
And later he added: "We, as a Church, feel obliged to follow those people the way our Church did during Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky's, during the Second World War ... The ability to unite and be united in geography and not dispersal makes us global. together. If we do not take care of the youth in those settlements, including new ones, there will be no one tomorrow. The process of assimilation of this last wave of emigration is several times faster than it was in the case of post-war emigration. That is why I am very thankful that our team started working so actively in Europe. "
The Primate also mentioned the Patriarchal Council of the UGCC on "The Immigration, Settlements and Global Unity of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church", which will take place on August 26-29, 2020 in Lviv. The slogan of the Council will be the phrase "The Church is always and everywhere with you."
“The third vector - our already established and structured, you can say,“ senior ”settlements, in particular in the USA, Argentina, Canada… CYM is an extremely active and successful organization that works very well. However, the "older" settlements also need active labor. But such an exchange of thoughts, ideas, persons between the "old" and "new" settlements, the Diaspora and Ukraine is the key to our success in the future. In all these three directions, rest assured, we will intersect, because we have a common goal, but we must look for new tools and mechanisms, ”said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
