ROBERT MICHAEL BOYKO, MD, CCFP (EM), FCFP RECEIVES QUEEN ELIZABETH II DIAMOND JUBILEE MEDAL

          The Senator, Honourable Dr. Don Meredith, presented the Jubilee Medal to Dr. Boyko at the S1. John Council of Ontario Annual Awards dinner on March 22,2013. Dr. Boyko is the Provincial Medical Advisor of St. John Ambulance inOntario. He received this award for the development of the Home Caregiver Support Program for caregivers of palliative care patients.

          The Parliamentary Committee on Palliative Care recognizes the heroism of compassionate family caregivers who provide 70% - 80% of care in Canadian homes and communities. St. John Ambulance has developed a new Home Caregiver Support Program to address the needs of family caregIvers.

          Dr. Boyko is widely recognized for his medical skills and contribution to the health needs of our community. Dr. Boyko is not only a Family Physician at theCreditValleyHospitalbut Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine at theUniversityofToronto, Provincial Medical Advisor for S1. John Ambulance of Ontario, President of the Ontario Coroners' Association, Physician of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Medical Director of The Healing Cycle Foundation, Founding Director of the Metro Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre in Toronto, and has a series of publications in the forensic Science Program. The list goes on and on.

          Dr. Boyko has been recognized by many honours and awards. Some very notable are Knight of Justice in The Military and Hospitaller Order of S1. Lazarus of Jerusalem, Family Medicine Clerkship Award from the University of Toronto, the Physician of the Year Award at the Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga. Here the list goes on as well.

          Dr. Robert Boyko is married to Irene Boyko and they have a son Vasil. His wife's parents, Zenko and Tatiana Matwijiw, were victims of Nazi persecution of Ukrainians as forced labour workers in world War IIGermany. Zenko is still alive and enjoys care and support from his son-in-law.

          Dr. Rober Boyko is a star of the medical community and a source of great pride to the Ukrainian Canadian Community.
