It is remarkable to realise that this year marks the twelfth anniversary of the “Warming Hearts with Kindness” («Теплом зігріємо серця») charity campaign, a heartfelt global initiative organized by the Ukrainian Youth Association (СУМ). What began as a small act of compassion has, over the years, grown into a powerful expression of solidarity and care for children whose lives have been touched by war.

Since its inception eleven years ago, the “Warming Hearts with Kindness” campaign has united Ukrainian communities around the world in a shared mission: to bring joy and comfort to the children of Ukraine’s defenders. Over this period, Ukrainian Youth Association members and supporters have collected and delivered more than 22,000 gift packages, with an estimated total value of over $730,000 USD. These packages have included warm clothing, school and art supplies, books, toys, and other essential items—each one a message of hope from caring hands around the globe.

The 2024 campaign was a resounding success, thanks to the generosity of Ukrainian Youth Association branches and donors across Canada and beyond. Together, participants raised $22,500 CAD (approximately $16,000 USD), enabling the Ukrainian Youth Association leadership in Ukraine to purchase Christmas gifts for over 500 children. Deep gratitude is extended to the Ukrainian Youth Association branches in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Etobicoke, Mississauga, and St. Catharines, numerous individual donors, and media partners FORUM TV and the “Song of Ukraine – Pisnia Ukrainy” radio program for their unwavering support and outreach.

The 2025 Initiative: Bringing Joy Amid Hardship

As Russia’s ongoing war continues to inflict pain and displacement across Ukraine, the need for compassion and solidarity is greater than ever. This year’s “Warming Hearts with Kindness” campaign is dedicated once again to bringing joy to the children of Ukraine’s defenders, aged 0 to 14. This year’s initiative will ensure that these children—many of whom have experienced loss and upheaval—receive gifts from St. Nicholas and can celebrate the holiday season with warmth and hope.

Funds raised will be directed toward purchasing school supplies, warm clothing, footwear, books, toys, and other essentials for these children. The 2025 campaign will take place during the Christmas season, from December 25, 2025, to February 15, 2026, continuing the format adopted last year rather than limiting the celebration to St. Nicholas Day (December 19).

A Call to Action
The Ukrainian Youth Association invites all members, families, and people of goodwill to join this meaningful act of giving. Each contribution—large or small—helps bring light into the lives of children who have endured the hardships of war.

Donations can be made directly through Canada Helps: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/w/43725
Together, let us continue to warm hearts with kindness —by transforming compassion into action and ensuring that the children of Ukraine feel the love and care of a global community this Christmas season.
