During a joint press conference with South African President Ramaphosa, Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about the issue of Ukraine in NATO. He noted that any decision on this should be made by the Alliance member states.
Russia does not have the right to veto. The President of Ukraine also emphasized that if Ukraine does not want to be accepted into NATO, then it needs other guarantees, reports “24 Channel”.
The US and Europe should be among the guarantors of Ukraine’s security
Zelensky addressed NATO members and emphasized that they are free people and should make decisions independently.
“If the allies do not support our participation in NATO, we always say: “If you do not support… You are NATO members, so Russia cannot veto. This is your decision. Whether we like it or not, but you are free people, this is your decision,” the head of state said.
Instead, he called for other security guarantees for Ukraine for the time being. The President once again emphasized that the guarantors should include the United States and Europe.
“We want the guarantors of security to include strong players, … who are not afraid of Russia and who have influence over Russia … Of course, it should be the United States. Of course, it should be Europe because we are in Europe,” Zelensky added.
He also noted that in our time there are such technologies that if there is a war in Ukraine, there will be no peace in the whole world.
“Unfortunately, this is modern war. And therefore we want the world to also support peace initiatives and force Russia to end this war,” Zelensky said.
