President Volodymyr Zelensky said that after the negotiations in London and the discussion of the American strategy, a new document appeared. At a press conference with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, he added that this format is now “on the table” with President Donald Trump.
According to Zelensky, European, Ukrainian and American representatives had a “constructive” conversation in London. Now, after discussing the United States’ proposals, “relevant points” have appeared on paper.
“I believe that today this format, this document is on President Trump’s table. Anything that contradicts our values or our Constitution cannot be in any agreements,” the president emphasized in response to the question of what compromises Ukraine is ready to make in terms of territories.
The US President’s Special Envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated that positive negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation led by the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, took place in London on April 23. During the meeting, the Ukrainian delegation emphasized that the first step towards peace should be an immediate, complete and unconditional ceasefire.
The media reported that on April 23 in London, the Americans planned to propose to Ukrainian and European negotiators to officially recognize Crimea as part of Russia and freeze the front line as part of a peace agreement. It was expected that the US would promise to lift anti-Russian sanctions imposed after 2014 and take control of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which will power both Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Later, the level of representation at the meeting was lowered after Zelensky’s public refusal to recognize Crimea as Russian.
