The Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK and former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny said that he was asked not to talk about the downing of Russian drones on Romanian territory. He stated this during a conversation with students in Lviv.
“The Baltic countries understand that there is no Article 5 of NATO and there never was. Poland understands this, where our missiles periodically fall, then Russian ones. Romania understands everything, but is silent,” said the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian commander-in-chief also told about a case when the Romanian military complained about the consequences of the operation of Ukrainian electronic warfare (EW) systems. According to him, they called and asked why the EW was activated, as a result of which the drones changed course and flew towards Romania.
“I got a call from Romania and asked not to say that they had “Shaheeds”. They also called and said: why did you turn on the electronic warfare system, the drones flew towards us. And I say: shoot them down, you have 40 F-16s standing by,” said Zaluzhny.
Zaluzhny suggested that his Romanian colleagues shoot down enemy drones on their own, reminding them of the presence of 40 F-16 fighters.
“Romania understands everything, but is silent. And sometimes he calls me and says, “be silent.” Well, two “Shaheeds” fell into the port, why are you silent? (…) And then he calls and says: “Why did you turn on your electronic warfare system, they (Russian drones — ed.) flew towards us.” “Then shoot them down. You have forty F-16s standing by,” I say,” said the former commander.
On the morning of December 25, during the massive shelling of Ukraine, one of the Russian missiles flew into Moldovan airspace, after which it flew in the sky over Romania.
At the same time, the Romanian Ministry of Defense did not confirm that a Russian missile was in the country’s airspace on December 25.
