September 16, 2025. The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), the global voice of Ukrainian communities in more than 80 countries, warmly congratulates the Honourable Chrystia Freeland on her appointment as Canada’s Special Representative for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.
This strategic appointment comes at a pivotal moment in history, as Ukraine and its allies work to secure a just and lasting peace. It reflects Ms. Freeland’s exceptional leadership, deep understanding of global affairs, and proven ability to deliver results on complex international challenges.
Throughout her distinguished career as Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Freeland has demonstrated remarkable skill in navigating critical issues. She successfully led the renegotiation of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Free Trade Agreement (CUSMA), safeguarding Canada’s economic interests and strengthening North American trade relations. As Minister of Finance, she guided Canada through unprecedented global economic challenges with resilience and foresight, earning recognition as one of the world’s most influential economic policymakers.
As Ukraine fights for its sovereignty and freedom, the international community must remain united in isolating Russia, increasing pressure on its war machine, and ensuring accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Ms. Freeland’s experience, global stature, and trusted relationships will be instrumental in mobilizing governments, international institutions, and private partners to achieve these objectives and lay the foundation for a secure and democratic future for Ukraine.
