Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Paul Grod and Chair of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain Petro Rewko met with Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom.
The event with the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was held on Aug. 13 at the Ukrainian Embassy in London.
It focused on “the significant role of the global Ukrainian community in securing international support for Ukraine and its reconstruction,” Grod said.
UWC’s president expressed his gratitude to Zaluzhnyi for the conversation and “his important work,” presenting him with a commemorative plaque featuring a piece of a downed Russian fighter jet.
The sides also discussed “a range of critically important issues for preserving our nation,” according to the embassy.
Ambassador Zaluzhnyi emphasized that the global Ukrainian community serves as a “reliable pillar of support for the Motherland, both in terms of preserving national identity, conveying the truth about Ukraine, and in providing assistance to our defenders and those affected by the war.”
He said that solidarity and support from Ukrainians abroad have become especially significant during “a time when our state is defending its freedom in the most difficult trials of modern history.”
“Ukrainians around the world are our backbone, diplomacy, voice in the international affairs,” Zaluzhnyi said. “We must stay united, regardless of borders. Only in this way will we succeed and build a future worthy of our heroes.”
Both sides agreed that Ukraine and the global Ukrainian community must “join efforts to maintain unity and consolidate Ukrainians in advocating for national interests on the international stage.”
