(RISU). — On February 25, the President and Vice-Chancellor of St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto (Canada), Dr. David Sylvester, solemnly awarded the degree of Doctor of Theology “honoris causa” to the Head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav.
This was reported by the Department of Information of the UGCC.
St. Michael’s College awards honorary doctorates to individuals — both ordained and lay — for their contribution to the life of the Church and its faith through service, theological scholarship, or leadership.
“His Beatitude Sviatoslav’s deep commitment to theological education is inextricably linked to his transformative leadership and witness in the heart of war-torn Ukraine. Few theologians have been called to put their words into practice as did Supreme Archbishop Shevchuk,” the president of the institution emphasized.
“In recognition of his deep commitment to theological education, transformational leadership, and courage in the face of an unjust war, I invite, on behalf of the Senate and Board of the College of St. Michael, to award Supreme Archbishop Shevchuk our university’s highest award—the degree of Doctor of Theology honoris causa,” said Dr. David Sylvester.
In his acceptance speech, the Primate of the UGCC emphasized that he dedicates this award to the entire indomitable Ukrainian people.
