UCC polls Canadian politicians ahead of parliamentary elections

April 22, 2025

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) has published findings of its election survey of national political party leaders ahead of Canada’s upcoming federal election on April 28 to the nation’s legislature – the House of Commons.

The poll collected responses from Canada’s four main political parties: the Liberal Party, the Conservative Party, the New Democratic Party, and the Green Party.

“The future of Canada’s freedom and the freedom of Europe depend on our ability to defend our sovereignty and our national interest. Assisting Ukraine in defending its own independence – and the freedom of Europe – is a fundamental national security interest for Canada,” the survey reads.

Five key policy priority questions were posed on Canada’s security and defense, global and domestic energy security, military support for Ukraine, efforts to isolate and hold Russia accountable, and assistance for displaced Ukrainians.

The upcoming snap election is of great importance for Canada itself, its alliances, and the country’s role in the world, said Alexandra Chyczij, President of the UCC.

“We are grateful to the leaders of Canada’s national political parties for responding to our survey. It is vital that Canadians are well-informed as we head to election day, and the UCC is proud to play a role in our democratic process,” Chyczij said.

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the UCC’s initiative as a key step in strengthening the political  influence  of  Ukrainian   communities   abroad.

“This is an excellent example for other global Ukrainian communities on how to influence policy decisions in their countries. It’s also worth highlighting that every party responded to the survey, giving us a strong foundation  to  hold  them accountable for their campaign commitments,” said UWC President Paul Grod.

Election 2025. UCC Releases Survey of Party Leader

April 15, 2025. OTTAWA, ON. Today the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) presented the results of the Survey of the Leaders of Canada’s national political parties ahead of the April 28 Federal Election.

“Russia wages a genocidal war against Ukraine. President Trump threatens Canada’s sovereignty and seeks to appease Russia. Canada’s election is of enormous consequence to Canada, our alliances, and Canada’s role in the world,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “We are grateful to the leaders of Canada’s national political parties for responding to our survey. It is vital that Canadians are well-informed as we head to election day, and the UCC is proud to play a role in our democratic process.”

The UCC surveyed party leaders on five key policy priorities:

1   Canadian security and defence

2   Canadian and global energy security

3   Supporting Ukraine’s defence

4   Isolating and holding Russia to account

5   Assisting Displaced Ukrainians

The full results of the Survey are available on the UCC’s website: https://www.ucc.ca
