Now, in order to achieve a lasting and just peace, the Russians need to be pushed towards it, said Mitat Çelikpala, professor of international relations at Kadir Gas University (Istanbul), dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, in a comment to Ukrinform.
“If the Americans and Western partners impose some kind of peace on Ukraine, they will most likely push the Ukrainians to accept it.
But this peace is not lasting and just.
It is just peace. Then, most likely, when the time comes, the Ukrainians will try to resolve this issue again,” Çelikpala said.
According to him, a lasting and just peace is possible when it is accepted by all parties. Currently, both sides have their own understanding of peace, but given the circumstances, the Russians need to be pushed towards accepting peace, the conditions of Ukraine.
“Someone should push the Russians, not the Ukrainians, to accept such a peace.
In the current conditions, we see that the Ukrainians, not the Russians, are being pushed. And that is why I say that it is impossible to achieve such a peace quickly.
We need time when the Ukrainian side says that it can accept certain conditions, then it will be a kind of peace,” the professor said.
The scientist is convinced that in the current conditions there is no way to quickly reach agreements on peace.
Zelensky — Ukraine is preparing a plan for approaching peace
“We are preparing a plan for the first steps to approach a just and sustainable peace. We are working on it quickly. It will be ready in the near future,” the President of Ukraine said.
He noted that Europe has a common vision for ending the war and security guarantees and should be at the table of future negotiations together with Ukraine and the United States.
