Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that in order to stop the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine, it is necessary to increase the pressure on Russia as much as possible.
“I welcome the bipartisan package of sanctions proposed by Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal in the United States Senate. This is ambitious,” he wrote on the social network “X”.
The head of state called this package of sanctions, combined with a clear deadline for the ceasefire, a step towards a lasting and just peace.
Stubb believes that without maximum pressure, Moscow will continue to “continue its delaying tactics, and the war will continue for the foreseeable future”.
US President Donald Trump believes that Kremlin President Vladimir Putin is deliberately dragging out negotiations on a ceasefire in Ukraine. In response, his administration is considering tightening sanctions, including tighter control over the activities of Russia’s “shadow fleet.”
According to Reuters, half of the U.S. Senate — 25 Republicans and 25 Democrats — have prepared a bill to tighten sanctions against Russia if it refuses to “negotiate peace in good faith with Ukraine.” The main authors of this bill are Democrat Richard Blumenthal and Republican Lindsey Graham.
