A meeting of Ukrainian and US representatives ends in Saudi Arabia. “The consultations are over, all the details will be announced later,” the AFP agency notes. It is also unknown what the Americans and the Russians discussed for 12 hours. There is still no official statement or joint communiqué and, apparently, there will be none.
According to Reuters, Russia and the United States did not adopt a joint statement after the talks in Saudi Arabia due to Kyiv’s position.
Therefore, the results of the Russian-American talks will not be made public. According to PAP, this was reported by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The official added that the meeting in Saudi Arabia was of a technical nature. Earlier, it was said that, in particular, the Black Sea Initiative would be the main topic of Monday’s talks between the Russian and American delegations in Saudi Arabia.
For Russia, the revival of the so-called Black Sea Initiative is a convenient topic. As military expert Mariusz Cielma stated, Moscow creates a message that it is making concessions, but in practice this means nothing to it, because Ukraine still exports grain and has pushed the Russian fleet to a deep defense.
Ukrainian observations of the activities of the Russian fleet in the Black and Azov Seas indicate its episodic nature. “This year, there were no Russian Navy ships in the Azov and Black Seas for most days. The Russians actually handed over this water area, this area of combat operations to the Ukrainian side a long time ago,” the expert emphasized.
