The Lozynskyj Foundation was established in New York State in 1998 after the death of Dr. Ivan Lozynsky, an attorney, and judge from Ukraine who came to America as an immigrant and engaged in business. His desire was to help young people in Ukraine obtain higher education because, as he always said, Ukraine needs intelligent, educated people.
The main funds for the establishment of the Foundation came from the estate of Ivan Lozynsky. The Foundation was established by his sister and nephews to honor Ivan Lozynsky and his younger brother Evhen, who had died twenty years earlier. Both brothers were from the Ivano-Frankivsk region, were members of the Ukrainian youth organization Plast and the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists.
Since its establishment, the Foundation has been providing scholarships to needy students in Ukraine every year for studies at universities in Ukraine. Last year, the Foundation paid out 113 such scholarships.
In this process, the Foundation has been cooperating with 10 universities in Ukraine from Lviv to Kharkiv for many years, including Lviv Polytechnic, Lviv Franko University, Carpathian Stefanyk University, Ternopil Pedagogical Hnatyuk, Ostroh Academy, Kyiv Shevchenko, Kyiv Mohyla Academy, Kharkiv Pedagogical Skovoroda and Kharkiv Karazin.
The basis of the scholarships is assistance to those in need, but in this time of war, particular attention is paid to students from displaced families, orphaned students and students of military personnel, taking into account that students of military personnel sometimes receive educational benefits from the state on this basis.
So far, 73 scholarships have been approved for the winter semester. of 2026. This will likely double in September for the fall semester. That is, it is presumed that the Lozynsky Foundation will pay out 150 scholarships in 2026.
The largest number of scholarships were awarded to students of two universities in Kharkiv, namely the Kharkiv National Karazin University and the Kharkiv National Pedagogical University Skovoroda, since those include many students displaced from Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, as well as from the region of Dnipro.
Spokespeople for the Lozynsky Foundation believe that the key issue for Ukraine today in times of war is the existence of the nation not only at the front but also for the preparation of a new generation. It is not surprising that, according to Ukrainian legislation, compulsory conscription in the military is from the twenty-fifth year of life. This is so that education and starting a family.are viable options.
Ukraine is fighting today for the existence of its state and people. As Ivan Lozynsky, the spiritual patron of the Foundation and his younger brother Evhen, once said. Ukraine needs intelligent people with higher education diplomas.. This is the purpose of the Lozynsky Foundation.
