How America became the world’s most corrupt quasi democracy

December 1, 2025

Askold Lozynskyj

For purposes of disclosure which is really unnecessary since anyone who has read any of my commentaries knows that I am quite embarrassed that a primitive con man heads the country of my citizenship.

I recall a rather bizarre moment on Fox News in 2015 when host Bill O’Reilly interviewed Donald Trump who had not yet announced his candidacy for president. Trump did say, however, that he was considering. O’Reilly as was and is his direct style asked what makes Trump think he can prevail given the fact that most people consider him a bit of a buffoon. That characterization, I suppose, stemmed from his three marriages, his television program which no one considered serious even if somewhat entertaining on a primitive level, his reputation for sexual affairs, his numerous bankruptcies, his university which was even then considered a fraud and under investigation. Trump was taken aback by O’Reilly’s offensive comment and made his feelings known. O’Reilly then demurred somewhat.

I personally had never met Donald Trump, nor did I ever watch “The Apprentice”. However, as much as I was involved in the real estate business in New York City, I managed to meet several real estate investors who had met him and his father Fred Trump or at the very least knew of them in the business and, frankly, had nothing good to say.

We are currently almost at the end of five years of Trump’s rule. Fortunately, there was a four year hiatus during which some of his mostly evil work was undone. The bottom line is that America is neither any richer or more affordable, yet the Trump family has increased its net worth several times over.

Aside from his felony conviction in New York on 34 counts stemming from fraud, more importantly for America Trump should have been convicted on inciting and, in fact, arranging for essentially an attempted, albeit unsuccessful coup d’etat by sending his soldiers (Proud Boys and the like), to storm the Capitol, hang his own Vice President for not obeying his order and thus remain in power by refusing to accept defeat at the polls.

Former Brazilian President Bolsonaro of a quasi democracy was recently convicted for similar activity and sentenced to 27 years. One of the hallmarks of a true democracy is the smooth and peaceful transition of power. There was nothing smooth or peaceful about Trump’s handing over power to Joe Biden. In fact, he never did. Aside from the Capitol tragedy, he did not attend the inauguration and continued to spew hatred for the next four years. In fact, he continues to this date.

Trump was clearly guilty of sedition. Yet he escaped with merely yet another impeachment. While he was president at the time of the coup, in fact he was not performing his presidential duties, but acting as a candidate for the presidency. His action cannot be overstated as brazen sedition against the United States of America, its people and the Constitution.

In France, which is a genuine democracy, former President Nickolas Sarkozy was recently convicted for taking money while President from Libya, a foreign government. No one has taken more money from a foreign government or governments than the Trump family while Donald Trump was in office. Selling access to and influence over the President of the United States began during the first term when Trump and his family owned a hotel not far from the White House. This corruption grew dramatically and brazenly as the Saudis invested in Trump’s son-in-law’s investment fund. The son-in-law Jared Kushner was and continues often to be placed in positions of “negotiating deals”. Kushner’s father, a convicted felon, serves as America’s Ambassador to France.

Currently, emboldened even more by his ability to enrich himself and his family Trump hosted the Saudi Crown Prince, a killer, at the White House. Trump went so far as to denigrate the victim and to praise the murdering Crown Prince on his human rights record. The event was a subterfuge for Trump’s illegal enrichment. Many things were said including a nonsensical announcement that the Saudis were investing in America to the tune of a trillion dollars, which is roughly the equivalent of Saudi Arabia’s annual GDP.

There are no investigations because the Department of Justice is overseen by two sycophantic personal attorneys of Trump and the Federal Bureau of Investigations is headed by a rogue Trump acolyte. Trump is sage for now since the only way to remove a sitting president in America, aside from death, is impeachment or incompetence both of which would have to be decided by Trump’s sycophants either in the administration or in the legislative branch. Trump controls them all, as well as the ultimate overseer of the Supreme Court of the United States, which has raised eyebrows for corruption but is not answerable to anyone except Trump sycophants.

This is Trump’s America today. The Founding Fathers would be embarrassed.
