Two youth soccer teams from the southern city of Mykolaiv visited Denmark as part of the “Mykolaiv-Denmark Sports Community” project, the Association of Ukrainians in Denmark (AUD) reported.
The initiative aims to support children from war-affected areas, provide a safe space for sports, and promote social and cultural exchange.
“These children live just a few kilometers from the front line, amid explosions and air raid alarms. In Denmark, they enjoyed several days of safety, training, games, excursions, and new friendships,” AUD said.
The program was organized by Favrholm Idræt & Kultur, Vejby-Tisvilde Fodbold, Helsinge Fodbold, DGI Nordsjælland, Women for Ukraine, and Hjælp Ukrainske Børn.
Activities included matches with local clubs, training sessions, visits to the capital city of Copenhagen, the Danish parliament, city hall, and various cultural events.
At an official gathering at the Sankt Helene Feriecenter recreation and leisure center, guests were welcomed by local officials, representatives from the Ukrainian Embassy, partners, coaches, and volunteers.
“Thanks to everyone who made this possible. […] This week reminded us that sports are not just about the ball — they are about hope, friendship, and unity that bridge any distance,” AUD said.
Earlier this month, Ukrainians in Hungary, led by UWC Second Vice President Jaroszlava Hartyányi, held a summer camp for children who lost their parents in the war against Russia. The program has been organized annually for the past ten years.
