(OPU). — President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney.
The Head of State congratulated Mark Carney on his assumption of office and thanked him for his support for Ukraine, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and also noted Canada’s contribution to military assistance, energy support, and joint work with partners to bring about a just and lasting peace.
One of the key topics of the conversation was increasing pressure on Russia. The Prime Minister shared his vision of how sanctions against Moscow should be increased. In particular, it was about total sanctions against the shadow tanker fleet and the banking sector.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mark Carney also discussed the humanitarian aspect of security guarantees for Ukraine, which includes the restoration of our state and support for the economy after the end of the war.
Special attention was paid to the Ukrainian issue during Canada’s chairmanship of the Group of Seven. Among other things, the meeting discussed the results of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which took place on March 12-14 in Canada, and a strong final communiqué. The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Canada agreed to cooperate in various formats and at various levels to make cooperation even more substantive and practical.
In addition, they discussed the development of bilateral relations. Canada is interested in military-industrial and defense cooperation. The Head of State noted that during this war, Ukraine has gained extensive experience in the production of electronic warfare equipment, long-range missiles and drones and is ready for joint production.
