Ucrainica Research Institute is proud to announce the organization of the annual Holodomor Exhibit, which will be held in two locations this November in recognition of the Holodomor, one of the most tragic events in Ukrainian history.
The exhibit will be on display at the North York Civic Centre from November 3 to 14, 2025, located at 5100 Yonge St., North York, and then will move to Toronto City Hall from November 18 to 22, 2025, at 100 Queen St. W., Toronto. The exhibit will offer visitors an opportunity to learn more about the devastating genocide by famine that took place in Ukraine from 1932 to 1933, which led to the death of millions of Ukrainians.
The Holodomor was a brutal campaign of forced starvation orchestrated by Joseph Stalin’s Soviet regime. It was a politically motivated act aimed at suppressing Ukrainian nationalism and independence. The famine’s impact was devastating, as millions of innocent men, women, and children were systematically denied food, with the Soviet authorities seizing grain, livestock, and other essential resources, leaving the population to starve. In addition to the immense human suffering, the Holodomor left deep scars in the cultural and social fabric of Ukraine, an atrocity that remains largely under-recognized on the global stage.
Through this annual exhibit, Ucrainica Research Institute aims to educate the public about the horrors of the Holodomor, preserve the memory of the victims, and highlight the importance of justice and acknowledgment for the millions who perished. The exhibit will feature photographs, documents, and survivor testimonies, offering a sobering and enlightening look into this dark chapter of history.
Both events will be free to the public, with opportunities to engage with experts and scholars who can provide a deeper understanding of the Holodomor’s historical and ongoing significance. This is an essential opportunity for all Canadians to recognize and reflect on the human cost of political oppression and the resilience of the Ukrainian people.
