In March 2025, in the magnificent hall of the Old Mill UCC in Toronto, a solemn celebration of the 75th anniversary of the creation of the Ukrainian Liberation League-Ukrainian Canadian League was held.
The main speeches were delivered by the Head of the OUN (b), President of the Anti-Imperial Bloc of Peoples Oleh Medunytsia, former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and Askold Lozynsky, former President of the Ukrainian World Congress and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, a well-known lawyer and publicist.
The Head of the OUN(b) and the President of the Ukrainian National Alliance, Oleh Medunytsia, welcomed the LUK and, on behalf of the warring Ukraine, addressed the audience, calling on all Ukrainians in Canada, Ukraine and the world to unite and fight even more persistently for Ukraine’s victory in the war with its existential enemy – the Moscow Empire.
Askold Lozynsky, former president of the UWC and UCCA, outlined the geopolitical and military challenges that the warring Ukraine and the entire democratic world are currently facing, and called on not to retreat even a step from the Ukrainian Cause and our common goal – a united, independent, sovereign Ukrainian State, for which the participants in the liberation struggle fought, and which was and is the meaning of life for many generations of fighters for the freedom of Ukraine.
During the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the League of Ukrainians of Canada, a documentary film was shown on the history of the League for the Liberation of Ukraine-League of Ukrainians of Canada, the printed organ of the State Organizations of Canada “Homon of Ukraine” and the activities of LUK and LUokK, a video interview with Daria Husyak, Roman Shukhevych’s liaison, and a thematic exhibition of the International Human Rights Project “Putin’s Real Prisoners. Political Prisoners of Enslaved Peoples” was presented. The project, initiated by the Anti-Imperial Bloc of Peoples, was presented in partnership with the League of Ukrainians of Canada.
Present at the ceremony were the Chairman of the National Board of the League of Ukrainians of Canada Borys Mykhaylets, Executive Director of the League of Ukrainian Women of Canada Orest Stetsiv, Chairman of the KU of the League of Ukrainian Women of Canada Olesya Luciv-Andriyovych, long-time Chairman of the KU of the League of Ukrainian Women of Canada and Chairman of the editorial board of “Homon Ukrainy” Dr. Oleg Romanyshyn, guests of honor — heads and representatives of world superstructures and friendly Ukrainian organizations, spiritual leaders and clergy made speeches and comments for the media.
Chairman of the National Board of the League of Ukrainian Women of Canada Borys Mykhaylets, presenting in partnership with the ABN the exhibition “Putin’s Real Prisoners. Political Prisoners of Enslaved Peoples,” emphasized the importance of disseminating information about Putin’s real political prisoners and noted that the LUK will always support the efforts of the OUN and ABN for the victory of Ukraine and the collapse of Russia.
Bishop Brian Bayda, Bishop of the Diocese of Toronto and Eastern Canada of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission for Youth Affairs and Chairman of the League of Ukrainians of Canada Toronto Branch Mykola Lytvyn shared their impressions of the exhibition (video – on the pages and websites of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Forum TV, ABN).
The Ukrainian League of Canada is an organization that has been working tirelessly for the benefit of Ukraine and the Ukrainian community in Canada for over seven decades.
Its activities are an example of patriotism, unity and dedication to the Ukrainian cause. The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church plays an important role in supporting Ukraine, assisting the Armed Forces of Ukraine and preserving our language, culture and traditions. It is important to remember that our struggle for independence and peace in Ukraine continues, and every contribution brings us closer to this victory.
