Recently, US President Trump said that the Russians would have been in Kyiv in “four hours” but the Russian tanks “got stuck in the mud.”
It was not mud that stopped the Russian tanks. It was Ukrainian courage, determination and ingenuity. It is Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, united in the common purpose of defending their freedom, that have stopped the Russian onslaught for 1265 days. Putin and the Russians underestimated the bravery and unity of Ukraine at their peril.
Ukrainians fight to defend their state and their homes from a Russian enemy that seeks the destruction of Ukraine. They fight to defend the principles of liberty, democracy and human rights for which we all stand.
In advance of US President Trump’s planned meeting with
Vladimir Putin on August 15, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) is grateful for the principled position of European leaders and to Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney for affirming Canada’s ongoing support for Ukraine.
The UCC is grateful to European allies and Canada for advising President Trump ahead of his meeting.
What is lawfully Ukraine’s is not for the Russians to take, nor for anyone to give away. The future of Ukraine will be decided by the Ukrainian people, acting through their democratic political leadership and in accordance with Ukraine’s Constitution.
The Ukrainian people deserve our full, and unequivocal support.
