HOLODOMOR NATIONAL AWARENESS TOUR STARTS ITS AUTUMN TOUR TO THE CANADIAN PRAIRIES
MEDIA ADVISORY - September 21, 2016 - The Holodomor National Awareness Tour is traveling to Saskatchewan and Manitoba this fall, with the first stop of its Holodomor Mobile Classroom in Yorkton, SK on September 23, 2016. The fall tour will focus on visits to schools, engaging students through a specially designed interactive lesson. In addition, the HMC will be featured at the XXV Triennial Congress of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress taking place in Regina, SK Oct 1-2 and at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights in Winnipeg, MB October 22nd – 23rd, as well as at other community events during the tour. The fall tour is being coordinated with the assistance of Val Noseworthy of the Instruction, Curriculum and Assessment Branch, Manitoba Education and Training and Holly Paluck, a principal in the Regina Catholic School system and chair of the provincial Holodomor Awareness and Education committee Saskatchewan.

The Holodomor Mobile Classroom is a 40-foot Fleetwood RV especially retrofitted into a state-of-the-art learning space featuring twelve 55 inch UDD LCD Samsung and theatre-style seating. Over the summer, Holodomor National Awareness Tour promoted awareness of the Soviet-orchestrated famine at festivals and other community events, including visits to the Montreal Ukrainian Festival (Festival Ukrainien de Montréal), Ukrainian Independence Day festivities in Toronto, the Capital Ukrainian Festival in Ottawa, and Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival in Dauphin, MB.
The Holodomor National Awareness Tour is a project of the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, developed with partner organizations the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC), the Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. The project is funded through a three-year grant of $1.5 million from the Canadian federal government and $750,000 from the Ontario provincial government as well as private donations.
